Aadhar card is a 12 digit random number issued by UIDAI (“Authority”) to resident of India after satisfying all the necessary verification. Aadhar card is one of the most important documents which are used today. It is used as KYC document, identification or verification purpose. Banks and financial institution consider Aadhar cards as valid address and photo ID during the opening of bank accounts. It is mandatory by various official organizations like PAN card or while filing Income tax return.

Many people worry that when they have lost their Aadhar card they have to stand in line again and get all the documents verified again which will take lot of time to get a new one. So when you have lost or misplaced your Aadhaar card, don’t be troubled as you can get a reprinted version of your original Aadhaar card and this provision has been given by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). As UIDAI has one master copy in their database.

Getting a Duplicate e-Aadhaar card online

1)Go to Website https://uidai.gov.in/ and click on “Download Aadhaar”

2)Choose either “Aadhaar No (UID)” or “Enrolment No (EID)”

3)Check/Uncheck I want a masked Aadhaar?

4)Enter the OTP received on the mobile number and click on the “Verify and Download” button. Also you need to click on “Quick Survey”

 5)Aadhaar will be generated as a PDF file

6)The PDF has password has 8 characters. The combination will be first four letter of your name (as in Aadhaar) in CAPITAL letters and Year of Birth in YYYY format. For example your name is Sachin Tendulkar and your Year of Birth is 1900

7)Then your e-Aadhaar password is SACH1900

Getting a duplicate Aadhaar card issued by POST?

For getting the Aadhaar card issued you can click on the link “Order Aadhaar Reprint” in Website https://uidai.gov.in/. For this you would require Aadhaar card number/ Virtual Identification Number (VID)/EID. Since this is a paid service UIDAI would charge the same but the fees are nominal as they would charge Rs 50/- (Inclusive of GST & Speed post charge).

Validation is done through OTP (One time password) to your registered mobile number which was initially registered while giving the documents. If you have not registered a mobile number with Aadhaar, you may order a reprint via Non-registered mobile number. Fill up the form with your Aadhaar card number and security code. Check/uncheck mobile number registered or not. Click on send OTP. After successful payment, your Aadhaar card will be printed and sent to you via Speed Post within 15 days.

If you are visiting Enrollment center

A person can retrieve the Aadhaar card by visiting Aadhaar Enrollment Center or by calling toll-free number which is 1947 and request for duplicate Aadhaar card.

When you are visiting enrollment center then you have to fill up Aadhar correction form. If you know your Aadhaar number or enrollment number, you can request the registrar to issue a duplicate Aadhaar. Or else, the executive will verify your bio metrics and place a request for a duplicate Aadhaar.  After processing your request successfully, your Aadhaar will be sent to your residential address.

If you are calling on Toll free number:-1947

The person can call the UIDAI’s toll-free number 1800-180-1947 or 1947, then follow the IVR options and choose the option to talk to the Aadhaar executive. Tell the executive that you have misplaced and need a replacement or a duplicate copy of your Aadhaar card. The executive will ask you a few questions to verify your identity. Once verified, the executive will accept your request and initiate the process. A duplicate Aadhaar card will be sent to the mentioned residential address by post.
